Taught A Child Under 2 His Letters and Colors
December 1, 2021
This is not a toy I own personally as I don't have kids, but rather a great toy I HAVE to review as a nanny! At the time, I was nannying a child who was 18 months old, 5 days a week. He loved puzzles, and we played with this toy every single day. I started out by fitting the letters into their spots, saying the word and pointing to the image next to it, individually touching and saying each letter, then going back and doing it again but saying the individual colors. I was his nanny for six months from 18 mo to 2 years old, and progressively over time he learned it more and more, until he reached a point where I could lay out a word puzzle and ask him which letters we needed. He would dig through the letter pile and find the right ones and put them where they went-I could even say, we need an f and he would dig for the right letter until he found it! Then when the letters were all in place, I would say and sound out the word, then point to each letter and ask what letter it was and what color. He had all the letters from the set memorized and every color! As a young nanny it just blew my mind that he was so little and figured all of that out. The puzzle element really grabs their attention at that age I think and it was so cool how he figured out how to fit each one into their spaces (great problem solving skills). The toy is for 4+, but I just wanted to share how effective it was for me when working with younger children! Under adult supervision, it can be really useful for setting up your child for preschool. I just purchased one for my 18 year old niece for Christmas and can't wait to use it with her :)
